Visudhanand hospital staff and managament in stand-off over salary, DA discrepancies
Staff members at the Visudhanand Hospital in Kolkata's Burrabazar area launched a protest against the hospital management over allegations of severe salary discrepancies and financial mismanagement. According to the agitating workers, there is a stark mismatch between the payroll figures being shown to the top management and the actual financial amounts received by the employees on their physical receipts. Furthermore, the protesting staff highlighted that their Dearness Allowance (DA) percentage has not been increased or updated, leaving them stuck with outdated rates—such as a stagnant base rate of Rs 1.50—under archaic regulations.
The unrest intensified following allegations that hospital management officials subjected the protesting staff to verbal abuse and derogatory remarks when they attempted to raise these concerns. In response to the poor treatment and financial grievances, the workers initially halted all administrative operations, including critical medical duties. This sudden strike briefly disrupted healthcare functions, drawing attention to the breakdown of communication between the workforce and the institutional administration.
Recognizing the impact on patient care, the hospital staff subsequently resumed all essential emergency services while maintaining their peaceful agitation for financial accountability. The employees continue to demand direct talks and an immediate resolution from the administration regarding their wage structure. Although the staff remains firm on securing their rights, the hospital management has deferred the discussion, announcing that a formal meeting will be convened tomorrow to address the grievances.
